From Benji's most recent post:

"As i have made this record i keep imagining you guys putting in your headphones and turning on your ipods to listen to it for the 1st time and i keep asking myself, what are the things i want to say to you, in that moment, when it's just YOU and ME. That is what matters the most to me on this record. You have been with us for 10 years now. Some less,Some more. All of u equally important, and in that moment, I want you to feel the connection i am trying to make with you. It's what has gotten me thru all the challenges in my life, this music and it's what we share. I hope you will feel it. From beginning to end. In the Emotional songs, the party songs, the ballads, the rockers and the Anthems.

You are all on my mind everyday here. I know you can't please everyone, but this GC FAM is what has been keeping me going in my life for sometime now. So this one really is for you and i hope you know it. In that moment i described, when it's me and you, remember this post. Love you guys, and i don't take for granted the love and support you have given us, and all the memories we have. I'm not saying i will never let you down, i will try my best not to, but no matter what ever happens or is said or done, this is our heart."

While checking out Escape the Fate's new video (the most -possibly unintentionally- hilarious video ever! Bryan opens the door of the plane and jumps out at one point! Also Craig is no Ronnie, and Max is still hot and crazy. Random cameo with Benji) I discovered a band called Black Veil Brides. (Thanks, 'Related Videos'!)

They are kind of too hard for me - you know, the kind of music where only the verses are singing and the choruses are all screaming - but I don't really care, because the lead singer, whose name is apparently Andy Six, is really hot.

Photobucket

Yeah.

And I loved the video, the way it was shot, in mostly stark monochrome. (Even the though storyline about the bullied emo kid doesn't really seem to have a good conclusion??)

I will ignore both the screaming and the unsatisfying storyline, because it (read: Andy Six) also hits a lot of what 'those girls on the internet' would call my bullet proof kinks:

1. eye make up
2. deep v-neck shirts
3. chest/throat tattoo of text
4. all white outfit
5. rosary (bonus points for rosary pulling)
6. mic twirling
7. kneeling and outstretched hands

Here, have an insanely precious photo. I know I don't even need to label this, there is only one person this could be, even here, at the tender age of 13.

Please make a new record, guys. I love your first one. :(

I am still kind of sad about this whole Panic thing, especially given yesterday's revelation. It kind of makes me want to curl up at home with my old comfort cure-all: a cup of tea and a fic.

Instead, I will be going rocking out with Rancid/Billy Talent/Rise Against, which seems like an excellent substitute for the above. ^__^

In the meantime, I am posting these pictures.

Panic may be split and fractured, but my girls are all back together again, and that thought has the power to make me feel happy no matter whats going on.

This is how it was meant to be.

I AM SO THERE!!!
oritsu_luv: (bill)
Tokio Hotel finished recording their new album this week! XDD Apparently it's taking so long because they're trying to release the German and English versions at the same time.

Also,
Everyone, and apparently all the German tabloids too, are freaking out because Bill has a new hair-do. It's like....dreads with white tips?

Photobucket
Look at the sparkly hairtie! and I love Tom with his hair down!

Photobucket
Doesn't he look like Natalie Portman here?

Photobucket
You can't see his hair too much here, I just think it's pretty.

I don't really miss the hedgehog hair. But I really like Bill best with his hair tame and down. It looks so nice and silky. So I don't know how I feel about the whole dread thing...but I will reserve judgement until we see what he'll do with it in actual photo shoots and promo for the album.

Today is Li-chan's birthday. Yay Li-chan.

Thanks to Oreska Band, last night I discovered a delightful CD. They kept babbling about this guy named Scott who they're touring with now. Then they posted a picture of Scott, who turned out to be a hot, long haired Scene Boy. My interest was piqued. Who is this Scott, I wondered.

To Google I went.

Scott, I learned, is Scott Murphy, a young American singer who had released two collections of pop-punk covers of famous J-pop songs. Pop Punk covers of famous J-pop songs!?

I went to Wikipedia, where I learned that Scott was not only all of the above, he was also a member of the pop-punk group Alistair, with hits such as 'Jacob thinks I'm gay'.

So off I went to procure the albums, named respectively Guilty Pleasure 1 and 2. (Or, as the Japanese site I went to had, Guilty Preasures.)

And I have to say, I love them. The songs are a lot of fun, he somehow transforms every song into rollicky pop-punk. His accent is a little gaijin-y in some, but on the faster harder songs he does very very well.

And most importantly, he happened to cover several songs that are very close to my heart:

First Love

Love Machine (with special guest vocals by some former Musumes!)

Voyage (yes, the song by Ayumi Hamasaki)

Nada sousou by Rimi Natsukawa (Okinawan folk into Pop Punk!)

And, there's even an English language cover of Kabuki-cho no jou, which tickles me to no end, because it's a translation of the original which means it's still about the singer's mother used to be the Queen of the Red Light district, and how the singer is proud to assume the crown.

This album really made me smile.

Off the top of my head, I can think of three people on my FL who need this album. ([livejournal.com profile] karasu,[livejournal.com profile] emmayori, and [livejournal.com profile] megu_megu this means you!)

Seriously guys. A pop-punk cover of Love Machine. Where has this been all my life?

It's been a while seen I checked in on what was happening with Ronnie. Just enough time for things to really hit the fan, apparently.

Ronnie - who jumped parole and was on the run for about three days until he was caught by the cops - was sentenced to four years in jail. Apparently they let you blog from jail,(And take photos of yourself with your self-inflicted haircut that makes me sad because in August he posted
three MySpace posts. One was a letter to his fans thanking them for their support. The other was a letter to the victim - Ronnie was involved in a fight which let to the shooting death of one teen and later, the suicide of another - in which he never once says 'sorry for your loss' but rants about how he hopes they're happy, he didn't kill anyone he was just a witness, omfg they ruined his life, aka it is just a big FUCK YOU to the family of the victim. Classy, Ronnie. Real nice.

And last, but certainly not least, as this was written in a HUGE font size, was a letter to his former BFF, Max. (Who, while he did say that thought Ronnie deserved what he got, also had many sweet things to say about how he still cared for Ronnie.)

Escape the fate is ME, and will ALWAYS be ME. And YOU will forever live in MY shadows. )

Max responded on his blog.

YOUR A LEGEND IN YOUR OWN MIND, AND NOW THAT YOUR NOT IN THE BAND ANYMORE WE CAN ACTUALLY ACT LIKE A REAL BAND AND GO ON TOUR AND LEAVE THE UNITED STATES, LIKE HOW WE JUST WENT TO NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA. ILL NEVER LIVE IN YOUR SHADOW AND I WOULD NEVER WANT TO, I DONT RESPECT YOU AND I DONT ADMIRE OR LOOK UP TO YOU IN THE LEAST BIT OF ANY WAY. )

What is my conclusion? Ronnie is a total asshole. I hope that prison will not only help him kick his heroin problem but realize that the world doesn't revolve around him and that he needs to take responsibility for his actions.

Also, way to use the prison computer to threaten people...

ETA: I lied. There's more. Not only does Ronnie respond to Max. He also has a nice letter for Craig, ETF's new lead singer.

Like I said before.. I am your foundation.. No matter where you go and what you do I'll ALWAYS be IN YOUR HEAD!! )

He also posted a nice letter to Craig, ETF's new singer.

But you really are trying to be like me.. Fucking my ex girlfriend now, huh!!.. So... tell me!! How does my dick taste??..Aaaaand my microphone?? How is it living my life?? )

Never mind. I have no more conclusions. >_> Jesus Christ...

Last night was the MTV VMA awards. They were fabulous. Russell Brand is now my favorite person ever, and I wish he could host everything. (And Russel Brand/Britney may be my new OTP.) He was audacious, clever, quick, irreverent...and really really funny.

Speaking of Britney, way to make a come back. I was very impressed. I guess deep down, we really all do root for the underdog, and want Britney to make it.

I am also so proud of Tokio Hotel for winning the Best New Artist award. I voted for that! Way to go TH fans! Represent! I was almost as shocked as the boys were when they won. (Bill's face! His hands in front of his mouth! So precious!) I didn't think they were that famous yet. But TH fans are AMAZING. (also crazy) So all I have to say is - if people didn't know who they were before last night? They do now!!

This is from June 20th, three days after Ronnie was caught for jumping probation and sent to jail.
It almost made me cry. I've taken the liberty to put it into paragraphs because it was hard to read, but otherwise, caps and mispelling and all is just as Max wrote it.

TO ALL THE FANS AND PEOPLE THAT THINK THEY KNOW ABOUT ME AND RONNIE BUT REALLY DONT KNOW SHIT. NONE OF YOU CAN EVEN BEGIN TO REALIZE HOW IT FEELS FOR ME LOSING RONNIE THE WAY I DID. HIM AND I HAVE BEEN ATTATCHED AT THE HIP SINCE WE MET, WE HAVE LITERALLY BEEN LIKE BROTHERS FOR OVER 8 YEARS. WE DID EVERYTHING TOGETHER, WE WERE EVEN HOMELESS TOGETHER. NO ONE IN THIS WORLD KNOWS RONNIE LIKE I DO. IVE SAVED HIS LIFE BEFORE AND TALKED HIM OUT OF DOING ALOT OF DUMB THINGS TO HIMSELF WHEN HE WASNT THINKING CLEARLY. IVE GIVEN HIM EVERYTHING, LITERALLY THE SHIRT OFF MY OWN BACK BEFORE.

I LOVE RONNIE AND ALWAYS WILL AND YOU KNOW WHAT IM GLAD HES IN CUSTODY RIGHT NOW, BECAUSE IVE HAD ALOT OF INTENSE CONVERSATIONS WITH HIM ABOUT LIFE AND THE TROUBLE HE WAS IN, AND I WOULD LITERALLY LOSE MY MIND IF I GOT A CALL SAYING HE WAS KILLED OR OVERDOSED OR WHATEVER.

f**k ALL OF YOU THAT THINK I DID THIS TO HIM, YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING. I BEGGED AND BEGGED RONNIE TO NOT GO TO THE DESERT THAT DAY, BUT RONNIE HAS TO BE IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERYTHING, AND BLOW SHIT WAY OUT PROPORTION ALL THE TIME. AND THE STUPID MYSPACE MESSAGE THAT WASNT EVEN TO HIM STARTED EVERYTHING. IT WAS HIS CHOICE TO FREAK OUT OVER SOME STUPID LITTLE GIRL TALKING SHIT ABOUT OUR BAND AND THEN GET INVOLVED, IT WAS HIS CHOICE TO GO THERE THAT DAY, AND IT WAS HIS CHOICE TO GET HIGH AND STEAL MONEY, f**k UP OUR TOURS AND THEN SKIP OUT ON HIS PROBATION DUTIES.

IF YOUR LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO BLAME, THEN LOOK AT YOUR f**kING "IDOL" RONNIE, BECAUSE NO ONE FORCED HIM TO DO ANY OF THAT SHIT. AND WHO WAS THE ONE THAT DROVE HIM TO REHAB? ME!!! WHO PICKED HIM UP FROM JAIL??? ME!!! WHO GAVE HIM MONEY AND A PLACE TO STAY EVEN THOUGH HE WOULD ALWAYS f**k ME OVER???? ME!!! AND I STILL LOVE HIM, BECAUSE I KNOW THE REAL RONNIE. THE RONNIE I MET WHEN I WAS 15, THATS THE REAL RONNIE.

ALL I DID WAS HELP THAT GUY AND COVER UP FOR HIM AND TAKE BLAME FOR HIM SO HE DIDNT LOOK LIKE AN ASS HOLE ALL THE TIME. I EVEN OFFERED TO GO TO REHAB WITH HIM, AND I WAS THE ONE TRYING TO GET HIM BACK IN THE BAND COUNTLESS TIMES AFTER HE f**kED IT ALL UP AGAIN. EVEN WHEN CRAIG CAME TO TRY OUT, BOTH ME AND CRAIG TRIED TO GET HIM CLEANED UP AND ON THE RIGHT TRACK SO HE COULD BE IN THE BAND AGAIN. I MEAN f**k, EVE CRAIG TRIED TO GET HIM BACK IN E.T.F

IF ANYONE EVER HAD HIS BACK THROUGH ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING, THEN THAT PERSON IS ME, PERIOD! BUT IM DONE KNOW, AND f**k ALL OF YOU THAT THINK IM THE REASON FOR THIS, YOU ALL HAVE NO IDEA AT ALL WHAT REALLY GOES ON. IF YOU DONT LIKE THE TRUTH, THEN GO f**k YOURSELF BECAUSE IM DONE WASTING MY TIME ON PEOPLE THAT "THINK" THEY KNOW THE TRUTH.

IF THATS NOT LOVE THEN I GUESS I DONT KNOW WHAT LOVE IS AND I NEVER SAID I WAS A SAINT WHEN IT CAME TO USING DRUGS, BUT YOU KNOW WHAT, AT LEAST I CARE ENOUGH FOR MY BAND TO QUIT DRUGS AND GET BACK ON THE RIGHT PATH. I HAVE TO MUCH RESPECT FOR MY BANDMATES AND FOR THE PEOPLE THAT ENJOY THE MUSIC E.T.F CREATES TO WASTE EVERYTHING ON A STUPID f**kIN PILL.

OMG, I don't even know, they look too adorable for words. Whatever I may or may not think of Ashlee, she puts the biggest grin and the most loving smile on Pete's face, and as a FOB fan, that's all I care about. She makes him happy.

ETA: They are having their honeymoon in Pete's basement, with DiGiornio's pizza, blowup palm trees and a fake&bake tanning booth. Oh my god they are the biggest dorks ever... <3

ETA2: They spent last night playing monopoly and Ashlee kicked Pete's ass, because he morgaged everything so he could get Broadway and Park Place because those are the only properties he cares about. Hahahaha. DORKS

Rolling Stone gave 'Scream' 3 1/2 stars!!

TOKIO HOTEL ***1/2

Scream Cherrytree/Interscope

Impish German glam rocker pummels world of sad teenagers into submission.

It's Official: These guys are the greatest German bubblegum-neo-glam-goth-emo-boy band. Ever. On their English-language debut (they're already huge in Deutschland), the four fresh-faced lads from Magdeburg unveil a genre-and gender-bending act that justifies superlatives. Much of the credit goes to lead singer Bill Kaulitz, an 18-year-old androgyne whose stupendous electro-shock hairdo stands a good six inches taller than Tina Turner's Eighties coif. Kaulitz is a technically limited vocalist, but he has the charisma of a natural frontman, delivering both yowling rockers ("Scream") and sentimental ballads (the acoustic weeper "By Your Side"_ with an audible twinkle in his eye that suggests he's not entirely serious. (His dodgy English diction - he pronounces the word "eyes" like "ice" - adds to the charm.) The taunt power-trio arrangements mix the whisper-to-a-scream dynamics of post-grundge with glam-rock power chords and a big dollop of emo's teen psychodrama. ("Ready, Set, Go!" has already soundtracked an angsty scene on The Hills.) And then there's "Love is Dead," which sounds like a lost Eighties hair-metal chestnut. With some strategically applied spandex, Kaulitz coudl become the rock god Bret Michaels always wanted to be.

I've been thinking and reading a lot about fandom/bandom recently, what with the release of the new Panic record, so I though I'd try to get my thoughts together a little bit. Mostly this was brought on by an entry I read on LJ about how being in a fandom effects your reception of a band's new album, which is pretty much just a reiteration of that old issue: do you like a band/group for the music or the members?

Usually, it comes full circle, I think. I like a group for the music, and then grow to love the members and then as time goes by and they release more music, eventually there's going to be some music I like because I like the members. MAX, of course, is the best example of this. I got into them because of Namie, because I wanted to check out what the new group formed by the girls she used to be in a group with. And then I got *into* them because of Namie, because into Namie at the end of 1997, which was right before she went on her maternity leave. (At the first show I ever saw her on, she was pregnant.) With Namie out of the spotlight, and no new material to be a fan of, I fell head over heels for MAX. And of course it's easier to be really involved in fanon with a group - I was converted by their warm and obviously real friendship and group chemistry just as much by their singing and dancing - and I was a MAX femslasher from the very start. (And there used to be a great community for it.) I loved the music, and I loved them. And then, time went on, and the quality of the music started to go downhill a bit - and I will always, always maintain that they have never been able to reach their full potential - but I still bought it and loved it because it was MAX and I loved *them*. But the dynamic was definitely different. I loved the music because it was MAX, instead of loving MAX because of their music.

I think you need a very strong quality of love to be able to do this. Here's the thing: I LOVED Panic's first album. I loved everything about it, the 'punk dance rock caberet' sound, the clever biting lyrics... I got into it before I knew *anything* about the band members, when the band was just three songs on Purevolume. Then, when I got to see who was in this band...I loved their aesthetic: I loved their music videos, I loved their stage costumes, their stage personas, their stage show. I loved all of it. I loved that special DVD box set they put out with the fake 1900s newspaper and the painted circus poster. I loved the whole kit and caboodle. And as I got to know the members, through interviews and tv and all of that, as I got to know Brendon and Ryan and Spencer and Jon...I loved them too. (And then, through addictedkitten, I found the panic fic, and I loved that too.)I loved everything about Panic!at the Disco.

And therein lies my problem: Panic!at the Disco and Panic at the Disco, regardless of what they say in 'We're so Starving', are NOT the same band. Yes, they've got a new image (Although it seems like they're wavering in that, with a new leaning a bit towards a more pastoral early 20th century look which is okay by me) but more importantly completely new music - *cough* thebeatles *cough*, and new lyrics - for the most part 60s style pot addled nonsense. And I do feel the members have changed - I mean, I've heard several reports of them being stoned at shows. I don't want to be one of those OMG Ryan drinks and does pot, he's a horrible person now! because whatever, but...I take issue with using drugs to foster creativity, and with being high while performing.

(Also, speaking of shows, they said they didn't want to be just boys in t-shirts on stage with guitars, which I heartily supported, because that's great, but how about something more for a change? I can't speak much to their stage shows now, since I haven't seen them, but they do seem more stripped down, with less theatrics.)

I don't know. Would I care about that stuff if I liked the new record the way I like the first one? Probably not.

The thing is, I feel bad not liking it. My FL is expolding with squee about the new album, just people who thousands of hearts and oodles of love for the new album and the boys and...I wish I could be like that. I wish I loved it to pieces.

But I don't.

Do I like the guys enough still to stay in the fandom? As of now, the answer is yes, because I still have this affection for them I can't shake. But I feel like it's almost a Good Charlotte situation, like I'm waiting for the next album (god only know when that will be) to really decide my feelings.

I don't know, this came off as very negative, but I do like some of the songs, and I do love the boys still, so.

Yeah.
