- Kusmi Tea. Apparently the company began in Russia in the 1860s and moved to France after the Russian Revolution. I've had a box of their delicious violet tea for while, and I got a sampler of their 'Russian' teas the other day and they are all lovely. One of them, Prince Vladimir, was created in the 1880s and won 'Best Tea in France' a year or two ago. How's that for a long time favorite!

- The two Barbara Cartland books I got from the used book store. Right now my love is more theoretical because I haven't had much reading time, but the covers are so adorable, and one is based on Zola's Nana!

- Tokio Hotel's new album, and Nick Jonas' new album. It's so nice when people you've loved put out records a few years later, and you actually LIKE them.

- History Documentaries with Lucy Worsley. She's just so impishly excited about everything, and usually she dresses up in period style at one point!

- My new jeans from Old Navy - they are SO comfy!
oritsu_luv: (Default)
- Donna Hayes magazine. The recipes are so good and the photography is gorgeous. Plus, it's Australian, and it's a trip to read about things like 'piling into a car on a bright summer's day and heading off to pick up the Christmas tree!'

- Indila. I accidentally found her on Youtube when I was listening to songs from the French dub of Frozen. I bought her album that day and I have been listening to it non-stop since.

Lyrics Translation )

- The fact that Namie re-recorded 'Can you Celebrate' and 'Sweet 19 Blues' for her ballad collection.

- Sailor Moon on Hulu. All the Sailormoon stuff. I am so excited for the new anime! We re-watched the first few episodes last week and it was so nostalgic!

- Anything with mint. Inspired by a recipe I found for fruit syrup with mint syrup

- Rei/Minako. My old OTP. There is a lot of cute fanart now. (Also you can't beat Naoko's actually art~)

- The various discussions on FFA recently, including one of changes in fic from 2000 to now. And would you do AU!you? LOL

- All the deviant art things I favorited which I forgot about.

- The Sherlock podcast I found (ihearofsherlock)

- Collaging

- All the Raven Boys III posts Maggie is making

Rediscovered this coffee which I bought at Arthur Avenue, AKA the Bronx's Little Italy.
<a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/user/VprClaudia/media/lavazza-gusto-dolce-250g_zps67419f0c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v196/VprClaudia/lavazza-gusto-dolce-250g_zps67419f0c.jpg" border="0" alt="Coffee photo lavazza-gusto-dolce-250g_zps67419f0c.jpg"/></a>

I wonder if I can find more somewhere. They had so much cool stuff at Arthur Ave. I also found a violet pannetone there when I went with my family during Xmas last year, which I didn't get and sort of wish I had.

My other recent coffee obsession is putting orange blossom syrup in it. It's amazing - it tastes like Florida!

Unrelatedly, I have gotten to the point where I can name several silent film directors who I previously didn't know existed (Mack Sennett, Thomas, Erich Von Stroheim) and recognize which dress Mary Pickford wore to her wedding.

I'm on my second Elinor Glyn novel in as many months. ('The Price of Things', now 'The Reason Why'). The version of The Price of Things that I have has the original illustrations. I just love the illustrations in old novels! I wish books had them today.

 Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich:

2 thick slices of Acme's Pain de Mie Bread
4 slices of pepper jack cheese
salted butter

1. Butter both sides of each slice of bread. Heat a frying pan.
2. Toast the slices on one side until browned.
3. Flip bread over. Put cheese on previously toasted side and place other slice on top, toasted side facing the cheese.
4. Toast both sides of sandwich until browned, and cheese is melted.

Follow with an organic cameo apple.

- GD's new album. GD's new MVs.
I can't even choose!!

Coup D'Etat?

Or Twisted?

- My favorite summer sandwich - toasted bread, heirloom tomatoes, feta and coarse ground black pepper.

- Maggie Stiefvater's blog. (Also watched this podcast.

- The cool summer pies from my southern pies cookbook: green tomato, rhubarb pie, strawberry cream, peach pecan, blackberry crumble... Maybe I'll make one soon.

Work was super stressful today, so I wanted stuff that cheered me up.

- This video of John Green vlogging from the set of TFiOS.

- I'm so obsessed with Seungri's new album!

- Special Mention to FOB because some of the songs from Save Rock N' Roll came out and made me instantly happy.

- What I Did for a Duke, by Julie Anne Long.
Despite the title and hilarious cover, I ended up loving this!It will definitely be one of my guilty pleasure rereads. The characters were brilliantly drawn and original takes on my favorite type of Romance hero and heroine - he older, debauched, wicked and sardonic, she innocent and earnest and full of passion (emotional and physical) just waiting to be unleashed. I loved their banter which was witty and delightful and the sexy bits were very sexy.

- Jazz Age Fashion: Dressed to Kill, which Cy got for me.
It's all close ups of actual clothes from the 20s, and the details are exquisite.

- Jamie Oliver's 30 Minute Meals show. Jamie will always be a comfort watch/read for me. I'm not sure if I could actually make all these meals in 30 minutes, since I feel like it always takes me longer to cook things, but I'd sure like to try! YUM

- The documentary Flappers, Speakeasies and the Birth of Modern Culture.

- On a Takarazuka kick again, thanks to Chicchai!Aileen. Although now I am a bit sad that I may have lost my copy of the 1997 performance of "http://www.takarazuka-revue.info/tiki-index.php?page=Romanesque+Mask+%2F+Golden+Days+%28Snow+1997%29">Kamen no Romanesque, AKA the best Takarazuka show ever, because Hanafusa Mari, Takane Fubuki and my favorite of favorites, Todoroki Yuu.

- Getting into watercolors again, which has been fun.

- Nigel Slater's Chilly Weather Recipes. Spicy sausage rolls with onion sauce and potato wedges with spicy bacon sauce?? Yes please!!

- The conversation over at vc_media about the vamps riding public transportation, specifically Marius being that annoying guy who starts long philosophical conversations with anyone who sits next to him, Lestat considering it a moral outrage to have to take public transportation rather than take to the skies, and Armand controlling the DC transit systems and periodically raising rates just to make a commotion.

- Tomorrow/Today is U-KISS Kevin's 21st birthday!! :D Happy Birthday, Kevinnie!

- I want to see this movie!! It is playing now, but only twice a day at horrible times at random theaters, so we'll see if I make it to the theater before it leaves!

Dune's new music video, in anticipation of their new album, coming 2013. <3
Speaking of which, the tracklist for the album is out :D

Remember Valentina (It Takes Will)
Wanted Out
Last Soldiers
The Sun Over Green Hills
All That I Have
Save Your Fears For Tomorrow
The Eyes of the World
Reach For the Star

They've come so far since even their last album, which I had to special order from a Danish website! Now you can preorder the now album on iTunes!

Bonus performance from the Danish Music Awards, featuring Mattias' bare chest. LOL. I have no idea who the lady he sings with in the beginning is...

- how Orange Caramel's Japanese career apparently consist of them covering old 70s/80s j-pop hits. Their newest release is Lum's Love Song.(Awww Lum!! So much nostalgia!)

On a final note, I just want to add something about the people I love, all my friends and family, whether you're in CA, some other state, or another country, I love each and every one of you. Thank you for being you.

- Donna Hays magazine. Beautiful pictures and fun recipes. May be my new favorite food-styling, now that Gourmet is no more. It's funny though, because it's an Australian magazine, so the Oct/Nov issue is the Spring issue :D

- SPEED's new album. Finally!

- The new Moleskin planner I will get soon. (LOL)

- BIGBANG. Just in general. So much love.

- The super old-school regency romance my co-worker lent me.

- Having co-workers. Yay for my new job!

- Miyavi's super sexy new photo book. (He called the photoshoot, with famous photographer, Nitta Keiichi, "like the most incredible sex" O_o

- The teaser for Girl's Generation's new album coming out in December. (And they're making a Korean comeback in January!)

- There is finally an article in an English language magazine article about HyuNA! (AKA the girl in 'Gangnam Style', who is a big star in her own right.

Haven't done this in a while, so I thought it was time.

- Sarah Rees Brennan's new book, UNSPOKEN.

- Cafe Bustelo coffee, to make Cuban Coffee.

- Daiso, where I got two lovely trays (one pink with hearts, one with roses), a sparkly notebook, pink mug, another notebook, a whiteboard for the fridge, and some more odds and ends, all for $14.

- Listening to Namie's discography on repeat and rediscovering awesome songs (more on that later).

- This new cooking blog I found, Joy the Baker.

- The video for G-Dragon's new solo single, CRAYON.

- The video for Secret's new single, Poison.

- U-KISS' new single, Stop Girl. (The video is boring though.)
oritsu_luv: (Default)

- Namie's two newest music videos for her upcoming single. I also watched most of her 2011 tour video yesterday. <3333 forever.

Go Round:

- Big Bang's adorable 'Ain't No Fun' performance from M-net this week.

- Big Bang behind the scenes for , in which they record the voices for their characters in a video game. It's adorable watching them crack up as they try to say things like "Fire in the hole!" and "I've spotted the enemy!" with a straight face. Loving the in-game inter-member dialogues. (Esp Seungri: "You should have shot G-dragon instead!")

- The Meltykiss chocolates's A brought me from Japan. (I have chocolate, milk, strawberry and green tea flavors)

- Peepsters, which are chocolates filled with marshmallow flavored cream, or at least that's what it says on the bag. They taste really weird, but they're somehow addictive.

- Lately I've been really into making stews. Tonight I'm making French Onion Soup, because I thought it was perfect for a cold, rainy day.

- Numi's Vanilla Black tea.

- The two awesome books I got from the university library on the Belle Epoque. I loved one of them so much that I ended up buying a used copy to own!

- Cotillion, by Georgette Heyer, which I am re-reading for the 10th time or so.

The first teaser for BigBang's new album. TOP looks amazing!!! (And I can't wait to see GD - I hope he has pink hair!!)

Well, I'm on the subject - GD's hairstyle in his shoot for High Cut magazine. I hope he keeps this style!! He looks gorgeous!!

Pinterest. It's so much fun! Like a visual representation of me. :)

The Utamap app for my ipod. It shows the lyrics for any song you play on your ipod, even in shuffle mode!

'Three Weeks' by Elinor Glynn. (Yes, the story that inspired that song about wanting to 'sin with Elinor Glynn on a tiger skin'.) It's the story of young Englishman Paul who falls in love with a mysterious woman who may just be a princess in disguise. The plot is just SO delightfully Victorian. It's like that book I read a few years ago where the plot turned on the fact that there was a divisive law making it illegal to marry the husband of one's sister and the lifelong shame of a woman who had a child out of wedlock. Even if people can perfectly imitate the style of the times now (Susan Hill's Woman in Black is an impressive example) there are just some plots that are so antiquated we would we would never write these days.

The summer K-Pop and J-pop releases. There's so much great music that's been released in the past month or two! Infinite's new album, Teen Top's, Kat-tun's single, Maki's single, Kuu's single which gets special mention for being flawless all around, especially the ko-so ko-so video. XD

BigBang's North Face CM:

Yes, there's a song in it, but there is also a GTOP hug! And walking arm in arm! Be still my heart! (Also, happy 23rd birthday to G-Dragon!)

In TV shows: Dalton Abbey, which San introduced me to, and Ouran High Host Club, which is hilarious and fun.

The rose jelly I bought at the Turkish Store. It's actually Greek (the jelly) and it's really thick, really rosy and really sweet. I've been having it in my yogurt in the mornings, and it's delicious!

The peach pie I made the other day. Who knew it was so easy to make pie crust if you only have a Cuisinart!?

The Sept Issue of Vivi. It's been a while since I've read it with my old enthusiasm, but this month was fabulous! So many stylish and interesting clothes! It really got me excited about what's coming up in fashion this Fall!

They're making a movie of Nazotoki wa Dinner no ato de (Save the sleuthing for after dinner). I bought this book last summer when M and I went to Kinokuniya in NY, and I really liked it, so I'm excited about this! Keiko Kitagawa is perfect for the role of the elegant, sarcastic ojousama sleuth!

Speaking of books made into movies, I saw the Help yesterday, after finishing the book last week. (I know, I'm probably the last person in the country to have read it...) I thought it was really well done. There were some changes I didn't really like, but all in all it held up against a super recent reading of the book, which is not something you can say about many movies based on books!

The B-side for KAT-TUN's new single, Yuuki no Hana. It's so pretty.

The video for KAT-TUN's new single. (Not the song, which is far too Arashi-ish for KAT-TUN, but the video! KAT-TUN High School AU! Also, this is seriously the slashiest video ever. I'm not sure what they were going for, but it really looks like the members spend the whole video checking each other out....)

Not too long until SHINEE releases the Japanese version of Noona is so Pretty (Replay) AKA the Japanese version of song that I've been listening to like non-stop for the past month.

GIRL'S GENERATION's first Japanese album comes out on June 1st! So excited! Mr Taxi is one of my favorite songs in a long time, so I hope the other new originals are just as good!
And I love the concept, it's gorgeous! (I really want the limited edition set!)

I almost named this list 'Things that are making my life not suck right now', but honestly with everything that's going on in the world, I feel lucky that all I'm dealing with are job search stress and money worries. Even my second choice title, 'things that are helping me stay positive and not be depressed about everything' isn't right.

So, things that I'm loving right now:

Georgette Heyer's The Black Sheep, which I sadly just finished. This was a re-read, but each time I read it, I think it edges it's way up a notch on my list of Favorite Heyers. She's created a lot of great male leads - dashing rakes, smoldering anti-heros, but I think I love Miles because he's none of those things. He's far too casual about manners, dress and family, and he's not even handsome. But he's irreverant and he brings out Abby's own irreverent sense of humor. I love them together because they're a couple who are together (much like Damerel and Venetia from Venetia) because they understand each other like no one else can.

Aishiteiru to Ittekure (Say you love me). This is a classic j-dorama, which was the #1 dorama of 1995, and written by the author of other classics like Orange Days and Long Vacation. It tells the story of Hiroko, a 20 something studying to be an actress, and Koji, a painter who has been deaf since the age of 7. There's something so romantic about this show, the way it shows the depth of a love stripped of almost all words, as Hiroko and Koji communicate through writing (especially that almost obsolete piece of electronics, the fax machine), and through sign language, which Hiroko begins teaching herself after she meets Koji. This show is my happy place right now, much like Mary Stayed Out All Night was last December.

Eat Your Kimchi. Simon and Martina's video blog about their life as English teachers in Korea. At first it was their hilarious K-pop music video reviews for K-pop Mondays that drew me in, but now I find myself delighted by every update from Simon, Martina, and their adorable green mohawked dog, Spudgy.

Doukyusei. I reviewed this mangahere, and everything I said still holds true.

Everything BIG BANG, with a special mention to all the wonderful comments I got at the gtop community. I've never written for a big fandom like that, and everyone has made me feel so welcomed and so touched.

Continuing that theme, my Play with GD & TOP DVD. It just makes me so happy. Love those boys. <3
oritsu_luv: (Default)
So, 2011, guys! The year of the rabbit. XD That means this much be the theme song XDD

(Uh, also...those lyrics are absolutely filthy. Oh DAIGO XD. Maybe it's a good thing that can still think of you mostly as your character in Love Shuffle. LOL LOL)

Now, on to the things I'm loving:

1) TOP and G-Dragon's 'Knock Out'.

So perfect. How are they simultaneously so cool and so ridiculous? They have that great mix of swagger (deserved since they've been hailed as musical progedies since they were teenagers and happen to be part of the super famous and successful BIGBANG) and not taking themselves seriously.

This is what good rap is all about, tongue and cheek, macho posturing and bragging, and tons of puns, in-jokes and references to pop culture and the rappers' own career and past scandals, etc. A concise explanation of all the references in the song can be found here.

2) I have a new RL OTP, you guys.

Ayu, AKA arguably the biggest Japanese pop star in the world, shocked basically everyone by announcing her engagement to Austrian model/actor Manual "Mannie" Schwarz, on Dec 31, and then marrying him in Vegas on New Year's Day, 1/1/11.

The two met in May when Mannie played the role of Ayu's husband in her 'Virgin Road' music video.

They are absolutely adorable together. I uh, am considering making a primer. But I can't tell if that's creepy, despite how many band primers I've read in my years. (Also, it would be super easy, considering all the flirting they did over tweeter for the whole time up until now. LOL)

3) OMG, an actual fic rec!!
Scott Pilgrim and the Unsubtle Seduction". Scott Pilgrim, (Scott/Wallace)
This gets the tone/language of the movie and comic books perfectly. I want to read a 100 more of this fic.

4) Still, Marry Me, Mary! Only 2 eps to go now, and it's just so good! I'll be sad when it's over, but I also just want Moo-Gyul and Mae-Ri to get their happy ending already!

- My new sweater from the Gap. It is white and fluffy.

- The new Carmel Brulee Latte from Starbucks.

- My new Slytherin hoodie, to wear to the midnight premiere of Harry Potter tonight <3 Since I lost my Slytherin t-shirt from college.

- Regency House Party

- Photobucket
Mary Stayed Out All Night, a fantastic k-drama with an awesome independent heroine, who finds herself embroiled in a fake marriage with a hot sort of homeless rock star pretty enough to be mistaken for a girl, and a forged marriage license to the rich son of a businessman. She has 100 days to pick which guy she wants to be with, but she just wants to go back to college and graduate! Hearts in my eyes for everything this show does.

- G.D's apple head: Photobucket

-F.CUZ's teaser for 'Midnight Sun'

- Co-ed School's 'Too Late'.

What makes it awesome is that it really takes advantages of the possibilities of a group with boys and girls. So you get a song where you hear from both the guy who cheated and wants to be forgiven, and the girl who wants to kick him to the curb.
Also, I just love this video. Dance battles, dancing in the rain, futuristic school uniforms...

SHINee's 'Hello' video. So adorable!! Adorkable, even.
