I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Mine was really nice. On Wednesday after work we hung out with Lyda, and then I made a pecan pie. I spent most of Thursday morning going back and forth between the kitchen and the living room to watch the macy's parade. I just loved the idea that all over the country people were doing some approximation of just what I was doing. I really felt like I was part of something bigger, even if it was just a small yearly tradition of cooking certain foods and watching this one show. Uncle Donald came around 2, and took us to look around the campus gardens while the turkey finished cooking. It was a beautiful warm day (Cy and I were resplendent in out vintage 50's skirt and dress, repectively) and so lovely out. When we got back to the house, it was filled with acrid, eye-watering, throat-burning smoke, because we didnt' put a pan underneath to catch drippings. We opened all the windows and aired things out while Cy made the biscuits. Then we sat down for dinner. We had:
- Turkey (Real and Fake)
- Stuffing (Stovetop, and from inside the turkey)
- Mashed Potatoes
- Candied Yams
- Brussel Sprouts and Chestnuts
- Gravy
- Biscuits
- Pecan Pie
- Pumpkin Ice cream
It was all very good.

The rest of the break was fun, involving home-make turkey barley soup from the leftovers, Enchanted, the new issue of Vivi miraculously in my mailbox the day it hit the stands, a video marathon, much fic reading, singing with my iKaraoke mic, and Cy getting her first colored tattoo! (also, unfortunately, a bit of a head cold. I still have a cough and sore throat)

So, I made turkey soup as noted below (which came out great, I will never again underestimate the value of home-made stock!) but could not bring it today because somehow we have only one tupperware with a lid. (But now I have a proper soup sized one, so I will bring it tomorrow) So I went to Starbucks for lunch. The guy was super nice, and I got to sit in a nice comfy red armchair. Somehow I feel like Starbucks may be the opiate of the masses for the 21st century. And even though I like other places better (Nothing beats Seattle's best, not in winter (triple peppermint!) or summer (cold brewed iced coffee! although Tully's does get points for their lavender latte, and I do drink peet's at the house) there's something so comforting about Starbucks. Like, you enter a Starbucks and it's the same, whether you're in New York, San Franciso, The Boondocks Ohio or Tokyo. Also, the taste of nutmeg? Is like a shot of pure Christmas into a major artery.

Was that a drug metaphor to describe a scent memory? Uh, yeah. idk. Sorry.

But it is. Across from the SB, is a B&N. An actually big one with 2 floors. I only had time to peruse the bottom floor, but I found out they sell both my relatively hard to find British magazine addictions: Olive (cooking mag, got hooked after their issue of classic british dishes) and Attitude (gay mag, got hook after their issue on boy-kissing eyeliner wearing emo boys). This will be good to know when I have spending money again.

At the moment...not so much, since for whatever reason I did not get paid for the first week yet, and so never recouped what I spent on work clothes, so...yay for three weeks pay at once, but I need it NOW, because I have enough money for rent, but not really anything else...
