So I was downstairs eating some mango that Rick brough from Florida, and chatting with Dad who was between clients, and the doorbell rings.
"Oh, that's David." My dad says cheerfully. "You wanna say hi? Hold on, I'll bring him in."
"Wait, David? Who's David?" I ask, as Dad heads out to answer the door. I invision some client or workman.
And then in comes David. So who's David? None other than the son of one of my Dad's oldest friends, who I used to play with as a kid. The last time we saw each other was...well, neither of us could remember, but it may have been before college.
He looks a little different of course, since he's older, but I recognized him all the same. So we chatted for a while. He's going to a friend's wedding next week, and his little sister Rachel is looking into colleges. I still remember her as being about 8 at most. It's so strange how time flies. But it was nice to see him, a little blast from the past. Apparently I've been reduced to cliches. But it was so surreal.
