thoughts about 'Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge'

I've been listening to the My Chemical Romance album lately, and I really like them. Their songs vary in type but still have a harder darker overall sound that links them together. Gerard has a great voice. Originally I'd thought he screamed a bit too much, but a listen of the whole album reveals how much range he has in his voice, just how many different way he can and does use it. His lyrics took me a while to get used to, because of the overall stream of consciousness feeling to them, and the darker gothic motifs like murder and revenge and death rather than more everyday themes, but there are quite a few lines that I really like, especially how he mixed both old fashioned phrasing (A pretty face but you do so carry on) with more ironic sarcasm (hip hip hooray/you talk to me/but would you kill me in my sleep). Apparently he freestyles the vocal melody when the band jams, and sometimes those lyrics become permanant which was interesting too.
