This morning I got into the city to find that the street cars were not running. So I had to walk 30 minutes to work. I usually walk back down to the train station after work, but it's an entirely different thing to have to speed walk 30 minutes at 8 AM. I arrived at work very hot and tired.
I feel a little out of sorts, just a sort of general malaise. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the time of month, or the fact that Stef's visit with us ended yesterday. Oh well. My Uji Green Tea steamed cake studded with adzuki beans sort of helped.
On Thursday Cy and I are going to see Metro Station and GC play a 15 minute walk from our apartment, which should be cool. And I did manage to get those Tokio Hotel tix, so I'm super excited about that.
While I was walking this morning, I listened to 'This Charming Man' by the Smiths. They did a feature on it at popnography.com (which is Out Magazine's gossip blog where they often talk about Pete Wentz and Gabe Saporta and Metro Station XD) so I listened, loved and downloaded it.
From Wikipedia:
Feeling detached from and unable to relate to the early 1980s mainstream gay culture, Morrissey wrote "This Charming Man" to evoke an older, more coded and self-aware underground scene.
The lyrics of "This Charming Man" comprise a first person narrative in which the male protagonist punctures one of his bicycle's wheels on a remote hillside. A passing "charming man" in a luxury car stops to offer the cyclist a lift, and although the protagonist is at first hesitant, after much deliberation he accepts the offer. While driving together the pair flirt, although the protagonist finds it difficult to overcome his reluctance: "I would go out tonight, but I haven't got a stitch to wear". The cyclist eventually submits to the motorist's advances with the qualifier: "it's gruesome that someone so handsome should care"
(BTW, Did anyone else know that the Smiths were originally on a label called Rough Trade? Is that not the gayest label name ever? I mean, Rough Trade? Wow. )
I realize I am like way late on the Smiths train, but I really like this song. I like the lyrics and I love how his voice is all feathery. It reminds me of a bird flying.
Speaking of music, Pete posted the cover and tracklist for TAI's new album. It makes me a bit nervous, but we'll see. I think I've just come to accept the fact that they probably will never make an album I love as much as 'Almost Here'. But hopefully I will like it better than Santi.
