It is a very lovely morning today, sunny and blue. The camellias are blooming. Tsubaki. They make my heart ache, but in a good way. I'm sitting here at my desk with some poached quince (poached in honey and rosewater) and a cup of Blue Bottle coffee. Apparently it has some kind of a cult following. It is undeniably deserved. It's delicious - a cafe au lait that is thick and rich and layered like an expresso. It also almost made me late for work because they drip brew every cup individually after you order it. Maybe I should get some of the beans for home next Tuesday. (The stand is only there on Tuesdays.)

I'm almost at the end of the Secret Life of Oscar Wilde. Oscar is in prison now. It's funny, because I love Wilde, and I expected to be amused and entertained and maybe even enthralled by this book, but I didn't expect it to be heartbreakingly beautiful in sections.

Speaking of Oscar and his letters, apparently over 50 letters and manuscripts, including the earliest known letter from Oscar to Bosie was just donated to the Morgan Library & Museum in NY, where they will be on display from Jan through May. I wish I could go and see them!

At the end of last month, MAX had their big two hour come back concert at the end of last month. Apparently it was such a success that they're going to do a little tour. I'm so proud of them.

A fan posted a bit report of the show, and I actually got tears in my eyes reading the following section.

28. I WILL

They introduced the song with, "We've been blessed with so many wonderful songs, but this song is one that has rally grown with us through our shows."

She sounded great at first, but Mina's voice was kind of funny on the second chorus. Mina usually gets husky by the second half [of a show] so I thought that was what it was, but she kept pressing on her eyes and lifting her head up, and I realized that yes, she was crying.

She and Reina sang alone, their faces close together, gazing at each other as they sang. Lina and Nana glanced at them out of the corner of their eyes but it was obvious they were trying not to look. At the end, where Reina and Mina sing back and forth, the fans started to notice that Mina was crying, and started to call her name, and as their voices filled the room, Mina finally became unable to sing.

The other three girls noticed and began to cry. Reina drew close to Mina, who hugged Reina, laughing a little. Nana and Reina were laughing too, but seemingly unable to hold back their tears.

The three of them hugged each other, and Nana stretched out a hand to Lina, but Lina turned around and wiped her tears, and then turned back to the audience and started to sing all alone. None of the other members could sing, and as she sang Mina's part all alone, Lina was crying.

The other three girls were crying so hard they couldn't sing, but Lina desperately kept on singing. And on the line 'Take my hand...' she reached out her hand to Mina, and Mina wiped her tears, and took her hand. Lina and Mina held hands and sang with their eyes shut tight.

They ended up singing an extra verse, but the band covered for them. Reina tried to sing the harmony, but she was still crying, so her pitch was completely off.

Even so, the four of them moved close and put their arms around each other's waists, deperately trying to sing, and all the fans sang along, unable to hold back their own tears. MAX and all the fans in the room sang together in their tearful voices. I've never experienced a moment when MAX and the fans felt as close as they did then.
