Blue Tuesday
Feb. 3rd, 2010 08:49 amIt is a very lovely morning today, sunny and blue. The camellias are blooming. Tsubaki. They make my heart ache, but in a good way. I'm sitting here at my desk with some poached quince (poached in honey and rosewater) and a cup of Blue Bottle coffee. Apparently it has some kind of a cult following. It is undeniably deserved. It's delicious - a cafe au lait that is thick and rich and layered like an expresso. It also almost made me late for work because they drip brew every cup individually after you order it. Maybe I should get some of the beans for home next Tuesday. (The stand is only there on Tuesdays.)
I'm almost at the end of the Secret Life of Oscar Wilde. Oscar is in prison now. It's funny, because I love Wilde, and I expected to be amused and entertained and maybe even enthralled by this book, but I didn't expect it to be heartbreakingly beautiful in sections.
Speaking of Oscar and his letters, apparently over 50 letters and manuscripts, including the earliest known letter from Oscar to Bosie was just donated to the Morgan Library & Museum in NY, where they will be on display from Jan through May. I wish I could go and see them!
