Morning in the City
Sep. 4th, 2010 08:29 amToday I had to go into the city early to do an errand - it's so interesting how different the city is even just an hour earlier. All sleepy and grey and deserted. It reminded me of that day we all stayed up all night for Britney's birthday, and walked back through the early morning streets of Tokyo, it had that same kind of almost abandoned quality to it.
As I went by the closed shops, I admired this sweater, only to realize that the particular store window belonged to Armani Exchange! Not exactly in my price range...
The building I had to go to was one of those huge old buildings, from the turn of the century, or maybe the twenties, with 26 floors. I haven't been in a building like that since New York.
Mostly the people on the streets were tourists, and some people heading to work. The most interesting people I saw were these two young men, both rail thing, impeccably coiffed, and dressed extremely fashionably. They looked like they had stepped out of a music video from the eighties.
On the bus, going through China Town, we passed a store called 'WELCOME STORE'. I wonder what a welcome store sells? It does sound very inviting, at least. Later on, there was an Italian bakery - not my absolute favorite, Mara's, with the most delicious Cornettas (aka 'cream horns' ever) - advertising, among other things, 'brioche pizza'. I'm sure they just didn't put the comma in, and it's actually just 'brioche, pizza' but 'brioche pizza' sounds kind of yummy.
All in all, it was an interesting morning.
