January fandom overview
Feb. 2nd, 2012 02:19 pmThings that I squee'd about in January
TOP & G.D
My two favorite members of Big Bang doing a project just the two of them. How could I not love it? They are the perfect combination. 'High High' was fab, my two flawless oppas partying in style, and then they released the video for 'Knock Out', and it was perfect in every way, ridiculous, adorable, sexy and cool. It even won over
jaded_hopeless, who has never liked k-pop, but who succumbed to GD's charm and his poodle 'hawk.
They just came out with the video for 'Baby Goodnight', which features TOP living up to his occasional Original Pimp backronym (the snake is his penis!) looking like a suave GQ MF, and GD being sweet and adorable. (The cherry is his...wait.)So it looks like I will be squeeing about them for a while.
Other K-pop squee last month included:
Infinate, who have a totally awesome song BFD (Before the Dawn), but who really won my heart with the gayest performance of SNSD's Genie ever. (Which may replace that j-actor version of KARA's Mr. as the rentboy theme song.) Seriously though, I love how the k-pop boy groups always perform covers of songs by girl groups, usually with the original dance. I love the things it says about gender.
(Oh the maknae! So adorable and fey!)
'Keep you Head down', by the remaining two members of TVXQ who are like fire and ice and compliment each other perfectly. (And remember that Yuno is Chanming's wife, guys. He said so.)
On the girl's side, I just have to say OH MY GOD!!
<333
Also, I listened to this song non-stop for many days on end.
To compliment all of this, I've also been watching a lot of EatyourKimchi's K-pop Monday vids.
J-POP was all about Ayu/Manny, my new RL OTP, to the extent that I started to make a primer for them. Maybe one day I will finish it.

I marathoned the first season of 'The Supersizers Go...', a fabulous fabulous British show in which restaurant critic/food writer Giles Corin and comedian/announcer Sue take on the persona of a couple from various periods of history while they spend a week eating like they did in that era. Now with more peacock meat!
Offline, I read Holly Black's 'White Cat' in two days, became obsessed with it, made
jaded_hopeless read it, downloaded the audio book, which is read by Jesse Eisenburg, and developed a new appreciation for the red suede gloves I got for Xmas.
I read Mrs. Keppel and Her Daughter and became obsessed with Vita Sackville-West and Violet Trefusis (again. This first happened in 2005-ish) leading me to take out Portrait of a Marriage, Vita and Harold's letters to each other, and Violet's letters to Vita (Denys burned all of Vita's letters during the lowest point of he and Violet's marriage, which makes my heart cry), and angst over the fact that neither Netflix or Blockbuster have the BBC mini-series of 'Portrait of a Marriage' on demand.
