We did it!
Nov. 5th, 2009 08:39 amLast night I was in my living room with five of my best friends in this state of California, and together we watched history in the making.
It feel so strange not to have to worry anymore. We did it. We really did it. It just blows my mind. I hoped against hope we'd do it, but I didn't really know we would. But we did.
And by a landslide. It's amazing. This country has finally, finally had enough, and we are finally united for change.
When it got later, we all went out to walk Sarah home, and the streets were - well, not filled, because it was about 10:30 PM, but we definitely encountered several pockets of revelers on our way. (And also two adorably soft and friendly daschaund puppies). Everyone we saw in the street, in front of their houses or riding their bikes or cars or walking cheered with us or to us as we passed. It an amazing, elating feeling.
ETA: I'm reading over my friends list, and I'm almost crying. Oh my god, we fucking did it.

TK AKA Tetsuya Komuro, the most popular music producer of the 90s, composer of countless hit songs by Namie Amuro, Ami Suzuki, and many, many others, member of the band globe, was arrested yesterday for fraud, totalling upwards of 5 million dollars. He faces, at minimum, a 3 year jail sentence.

"Famed producer and musician Tetsuya Komuro was arrested on Tuesday on charges of fraud. The high-profile case started back in 2006 when Komuro approached a private investor, offering to sell the copyrights of 806 songs he produced for the sum of 1 billion yen. The two reached an agreement, and the investor paid 500 million yen up front. He later learned that the rights to the songs actually belonged to Avex and other companies, not Komuro, so when he was unable to get his money back, he took the case to the authorities.
Komuro lost a civil suit in July and was fined 600 million yen, but he failed to pay by the deadline. The case was escalated to the Osaka District Court, which issued the warrant for his arrest. He was taken in by the police on Tuesday and was reportedly exhibiting remorse for his crime. Two employees of his event planning company Tribal Kicks were also arrested under suspicion of being accomplices in the fraud.
In recent years, Komuro has been plagued with debt due to failed business projects and alimony payments from his previous marriage to Asami Yoshida."

Earlier this week he and his wife, fellow globe member Keiko, applied for a divorce. Komuro himself sought the divorce, when it became clear that he would be arrested, in order to save Keiko and her family from further troubles. (Calls already been coming to Keiko's family's restaurant from people asking him to pay them back.) Keiko initially refused to get a divorce, but he eventually convinced her.
Her official comment makes it even more apparent that she's sticking by him. 'I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart for all the trouble caused. I'm ashamed of myself for never even imagining that this would happen. I hope that the truth will soon be uncovered. Our lives are about to get very difficult, but I am prepared to walk this path together with him.'
Upcoming releases from globe have been canceled, and remaining globe member Marc Panther, commented as follows: 'The news is so sudden, I can't quite grasp it yet. I can't express how sad I am, and sorry I am for all the globe fans that were looking forward to a release from us for the first time in so long. My respect for TK as a musician, and a producer remains unchanged. I believe that the day will come when we will make music together and perform together again.'

SPEED interview
Nov. 5th, 2009 09:59 amStrong bonds, and love. Those are the unwavering beliefs SPEED holds in their hearts as they make their permanent reunion. This isn't a short term thing, this is a complete, total reunion, decided on by the members after numerous talks to make certain of their emotions. With a strong will and rich experiences behind them, the four girls have made their new start.
First off, I'd like to ask what it was that really clinched your decision to get back together.
HIROKO: We had a lot of opportunities to become aware of just how many people still love SPEED. So we started to think about how we could, not just accept those feelings, but how would could show people just how thankful we are...and we thought, 'Maybe we can make some time that people will enjoy and be happy about as SPEED.' Of course, SPEED is so huge, and for a while I really fought with myself about that, but there's great energy and I want to be really positive about this. And it's those emotions that the four of us want to place the most importance on.
ERIKO: There are so many things that the four of us can only do together. We can get our songs out to so many people because it's the four of us, and we do have a message. I hope that by getting together again and singing and performing, we can communicate something to people. I just want to share good times with people.
You are spending time together again as 'New SPEED'. How do you feel '20 something SPEED' has grown?
TAKAKO: Before, we were kind of like a square, with eahc of us standing at a different corner, but now we're more harmonious, like a circle. We changed shape freely and we're all naturally finding the right balance...it's more round.
HIROKO: We've all got a different rhythm, a different temperature, but we've found a harmony. I really feel that. If we were music, we've be jazz.
HITOE: We've all been having different experiences in these past years, and we've all grown from that. Every day I realize again just how much energy we have when the four of us get together. So we naturally think about and talk about what 'the four of us can do together'. Before, the label of 'SPEED' felt a little heavy at times, but now, it feels like it's part of my name." (LOL)

You can project a feeling with one person, butyou can't really build an atmosphere without other people.
ERIKO: That's right. And this atmosphere is one that only the four of us can create.
TAKAKO: We have an invisable bond, trust, and companionship. And you can see that in the atmosphere we create.
'Ashita no Sora' will mark your first step. What was the first thing you took from this song?
HITOE: The first thing I felt was how deep the lyrics are. I really felt that there's something in them that the four of us can really express now. It was an opportunity for me realize again just how strongly I feel about 'making our emotions one and expressing something.'
IMAI: The lyrics don't have a set narration or 'you'. 'You' could be a lover, a family member, or a friend. So I think it will be accessible to a lot of people. This is a song that only the four of us can sing, both in terms of lyrics and tempo. It made me realize again just how much power and strength the four of us have.
TAKAKO: The theme of this song is believing in yourself. That's an easy thing to say, but it's not always an easy thing to do. But if you can believe in yourself and keep taking steps forward, something will happen. I realy felt that again with this song, and it also became a song that gave me a chance to take another look at myself. I hope that it can send people who are worrying the message to 'believe in yourself. Trust your feelings.'
HIROKO: The more I sing it, the more positive I feel. It has a really strong message of belief, and dreams coming true. I like the song even more now than I did when we first got it. It's a song that had to grow inside me. I really want everyone to see the music video because I feel that you'll be able to see what we all hold dear, what we all want to get across.
'Ashita no Sora' really shows your warmth, gentleness and flexible strength. By contrast, 'Something new' is very groovy.
TAKAKO: It's really radiant. (LOL)
HITOE: It's a song that's just a lot of fun.
ERIKO: It's all about just venting everything bad that's going on. And it feels really friendly.
HIROKO: I there was a place called 'SPEED', this is it in song form.
And the last track is a medley of some of your old hit songs.
ERIKO: Time has passed, but those songs never grow old. That's the kind of strange power SPEED's songs have.
HIROKO: To tell the truth, I was worried about that, because it's hard to make something that surpasses the original. So I just put my heart into the songs.
HITOE: Where this is concerned...it's not just SPEED's feelings, so many people have feelings about these songs, so they really need to sing them with us. That's what was most difficult. I think that's what Hiroko meant too.
When a group gets back together, a lot of time the only people excited about it are the group members and the fans, but in SPEED's case, I feel like they can get a lot more people caught up in it. We're excited about that too. Please give me your thoughts about where SPEED will go next.
HITOE: It's not really being useful, but...to be general, I'd like SPEED to serve a purpose. I'd like us to be able to do something that makes us thing, "We're glad to have SPEED.' We talk about that a lot. Even if we cna only do something small, I hope that what we can do makes people happy.
ERIKO: The whole time we were chasing out dreams, the people who supported us were always by our side. And now we're paying them back for that...it's kind of hard to understand, but I want to do my best to do something for all the people who've supported us this whole time! I think there's a reason the four of us are getting back together now, and I'm sure that in our future activities we'll come to feel even more 'the reason we're together', and 'the importance of singing together'.
TAKOKO: On our blog, people have been writing comments like 'I have so much to look forward to now!' and 'Just the name SPEED gets me excited!'. I hope we can keep them excited, and I really want to continue to be something they get excited over. Because the four of us feel the same way about being together again. I'll be happy if we can share those feelings with people.
HIROKO: At this point...I feel like this is a place I can be myself in. But I understand how difficult it is in life to really be yourself. But so many things make me realize that that's what helps you the most, and that's what's most important. So I hope that our songs can help everyone smile, and blow off stress, and help them in some way. For me, being here and laughing with everyone is where I find my greatest peace. I want to share this happiness with everyone through our singing and dancing. So more than 'I want to make SPEED this way', I'm thinking about 'What can we do?''What can we share with everyone?' I want to make songs and an atmosphere that can share this, fun happy energy, regardless of things like age.
