Nana vol 18

So I just finished the latest volume of Nana. (In fact, I ended up on the outbound streetcar instead of the inbound, because I was reading it. Haha)
For one second during the future scene, I thought Ren was dead. Thank god that doesn't seem to be true, since how could he have put the photos in Hachi's mail box if he were dead? Unless they were serious about the angel thing. But then again, nothing seems to have come of his drug use, so hopefully not.
I have to say, as much of a bastard as Takumi is, his interactions with Hachi make me laugh. ('Honey, I'm home! Wait, why are you angry?' 'I'm angry that you don't know why I'm angry!' *Hachi gives him an omurice with an angry face drawn in ketchup* 'You're still angry?' 'Not at all!') and ('Why are you here??' 'You told me to come pick you up.' 'Well, I don't wanna go home yet.' 'Stay here forever then.') haha.
Also...Ren and Nana's relationship has changed so much since Vol 1. At first it was the big dramatic Eternal Love, and now it's more...every day. Nana goes home to find Ren's back from the band's recording in London and wonders how they're going to get along in the day by day. And realizes that they just have to take it a day at a time, just relax and enjoy each other's company. Somehow, they'll be able to do it, to build a strong, lasting relationship. I loved that scene because it was so realistic. The idea that you have to work at a relationship, it's not all roses and breathe play. At first it was hard to get used to, because it was *so* pragmatic, but I really liked it. It's not going to be perfect, but if you work at it, it can be Good.
I'm still a die-hard Layla/Shin fan, so I was really really happy about Takumi deciding to let Layla see Shin. I think it was a huge step for him ('I didn't start Trapnest to destroy your happiness!') I just wish it didn't take Shin being arrested for Takumi to come to that realization. (And that one came out of nowhere! Although, I guess it makes sense, Shin's in shock, so he's going to go to Ryoko's to forget everything, and drugs are a good way to do that, but...Maybe I'm a jaded American, but I always have a problem with the whole OMG!! Illegal Drugs!!! Life destroying substance!! Pot ruins lives! schtick in manga, because I'm like...uh? It's just pot... Especially because on one hand, we have Ren who is doing like, coke. But I guess it's good because Shin will get off easily, especially being a minor.) I can't wait to see if he and Layla do get back together. I hope so. If he were over her, he wouldn't have such a reaction every time she's mentioned. *crosses fingers*
But I really thought Blast's tour being canceled and their going on hiatus was going to be what drove Nana to run away. But I guess not.... Which makes me worried as to how bad whatever it is that happens is...

Date: 2007-11-21 05:32 am (UTC)My fav though was when I was in Vancouver last year, we smelt pot, and Namio-kun and I both were like '.....' and then Namio laughed and said something about how he was really ayashii, as a nihonjin who knew what that smell was. LOL
Also, and I guess if you stretch it this has to do with Nana, since Hyde wrote the Mika as Nana song for the first movie...have you seen the poster (http://community.livejournal.com/larcenciel/823537.html#cutid1") for L'arc's new album KISS? (featuring, well, L'arc kissing? Each other?)
