'M' Keyword Q & A

A bunch of questions for Miyavi involving words that begin with 'M'.
Apparently, this will continue in following issues with letters 'Y' and 'V'.

MAD: What are you really into (mad about) right now, other than music?

Good question. English, I guess? It doesn't feel like studying, because I enjoy it. I got interested in English when I was about 18 or 19. Before that I wasn't really interested in it, but after I started doing music, and started thinking more globally, I realize how necessary it is. I think that's what got me started. I think you really need to have an interest in it, or you can't keep it up. But it's going to become as necessary as a computer, so I study every single day.

MAKE: Are you making anything right now?

Snot. I've had allergies for about ten years now. (LOL) I didn't realize it at all. I mean, I don't hate sneezing or anything. (LOL) So anyway, yeah, these days, I'm making snot all day long.

MAKE-UP: Do you have anything special about your make-up?

In a way, how Kabuki-ish I can make it. Of course I want it to look beautiful, but I also want to give a feeling of sprituality. I go to see Kabuki a lot, and I watch DVDs too.

MAP: Do you use a map in the US?

I like using a map when I go places. I'm actually really good with maps. When I was a kid, I was really good with three dimensional graphs and stuff in Math class.

Really? I thought you said that you messed up and ended up all alone in the middle of a field in the US during the countdown at New Year's?

Sometimes that happens. (LOL) But that's always because I'm not looking at a map. (LOL)

MAIN: What's the main thing that makes up Miyavi?

We asked you this once before, and you said, 'All sorts of different Ore-samas.' What about now?

Gentleness.

What are you, Bufferin?

Hahaha. As long as you're satisfied with me.

MINI-SKIRT

I love them!

Thanks for that honest answer.

Haha. Well, I wear them myself, too.

Mini-skirts?

Yeah. I wear skirts. Not just as part of a costume on stage, I try to wear them every day too.

You used to wear a very Visual-Kei-esque long black skirt.

I did, didn't I? It was totally trashed. (LOL) But now I just wear regular skirts.

Like Axel Rose used to?

Yeah, yeah. Like that!

MISTAKE: You used to always say, as long as you learn something there's no mistakes. How do you feel now?

Wow, I really said some good stuff, didn't I? That's true though, if you learn from it, it's not a mistake. It's funny, but I think that you need to make mistakes to grow.

Do you have any good stories about a mistake you made recently? Something really ditzy, like dropping something, or tripping over something.

I don't really do ditzy things like that. Oh, wait, I got one. I ate too much. I ate too many carbohydrates.

But you eat such a good diet, because you're so beauty conscious. I thought you gave up carbohydrates a while ago?

Yeah, but I decided that I shouldn't stop eating them altogether, so lately I've been eating a little bit. I've been thinking about how we eat to live, but also, it's important to have different experiences, and how by eating different things I can widen my experiences. Like, when you go to different places, they have local delicacies, right? Dishes they're famous for. I decided that not trying those things was actually limiting myself. I mean, it's all about balance,

In the past, I never watching TV or read manga, but lately I do watch TV sometimes, and I read manga sometimes. I decided it was nonsense to cut myself off from different things because I've decided something's not necessary. Because then I'm shutting myself out from something I might be able to learn from, you know? And that's not good. So I've started to feel the same about food. If it's something I haven't experienced before, I should try it, even if it happens to be a charbohydrate. Recently, I tried nasi goreng (a malaysian fried rice dish).

And you ate too much?

Haha. Yeah. Eating too much was a mistake.

MEET: Meeting people

Also recently, I've started to realize just how important and special meeting people is.
That it really is a once in a lifetime oppourtunity. I'm much better about actually exhcanging numbers and info with people now.

That has changed. Before, you were more like, 'Even if I don't see them now, if it's meant to be, we'll meet again later.'

Right. Before. But now I'm trying to really hold on to the fact that I've met someone.
I want to stay connected. And then if it's meant to be we can meet again. I think I've grown up a little, as far as that's concerned.

MIND: Mind control

You don't ever really show your emotions, and sometiems I wonder if you can use mind-control. Can you?

Hmm... Well, I never really get anxious before a show.
But when I played that hall in Shibuya (note: this probably refers to his first solo show, in Shibuya hall), I started to get antsy. (LOL) It's really unsual for me to get like that. The rehearsal had been really rushed up to the last minute, so I was irritated. I ended up having to skip a few songs. I think there was this kind of feeling of nervousness. But that's about it, lately.

In the past, you used put on headphones to block out any other sounds before a show, asnd read a book right until it was time to go on to keep yourself calm.

Yeah. But now I don't keep myself calm in such simple ways. I just do in internally. I save it all up inside myself, so I don't become too hyper or anything before the show starts. I think I've also grown up a little in that, that now I can control that internally, withouth aving to do anything. Because there's nothing worse than a show without any tension.

MUSIC: What is music to you?

In a way, my guitar is my weapon. I do music to live, and I do guitar to do music. Music is my life.

It's your reason for living, right? So what would you do if you couldn't play guitar? Would you lose your reason for living?

No. If that happened, I'd just have to find another reason to keep on living. Of course, it'd be cool to say 'If I couldn't play guitar, I'd die!' but I don't agree with that, I mean, you have to keep going. Just like I found guitar when I couldn't play soccer anymore, I'm sure I would find something else than was meaningful to me. And that would be my new reason for living.
